Toast of the Week (5/11/10)

Happy Tuesday everyone, and congratulations on making it past Monday – I barely scraped by. This was an interesting week in the cigar industry, highlighted by the news of Rocky Patel buying a 50% stake in EO Brands, formerly United Tobacco, and makers of such brands as 601, Cubao, and Murcielago. The announcement was made just a few days after EO Brands broke from their distributor, Miami Cigar, in order to lower prices by as much as $2.50-3.00 per cigar. Some rumors quickly began to spread about whether EO would move some of their production away from Don Pepin Garcia’s My Father factory, but that was quickly denied by Eddie Ortega – all production will remain exactly as it currently stands.

We’ve also seen several new releases over the last few weeks, including the Nosotros from Illusione and Drew Estate, the NHC house blend from Tatuaje, the EP Carrillo Short Run, the La Gloria Cubana Artesanos De Tabaqueros, the 1989 from Nestor Miranda, and the Davidoff Puro d’Oro, among others. Quite a list of new smokes to try!

Well, let’s get straight to the toasts shall we?
