Background:
Lisa at Rocketfuelcoffee.com has become a friend and it has been great getting to know her, her company, and her product. We’ve reviewed several of her coffees in the past and interviewed her some time ago (here). Today’s coffee is a combination of Lisa’s 100% Pure Hawaiian Kona and an Arabica Espresso blend, to create a new blend that she calls Konakaze.
Profile:
The Konakaze features a very dark bean, nearly black, that is covered in oil. The aroma of the bean is all over the place – pecan, bitter cocoa, and gentle berry. On the pour, the berry is most present and a sweet apple core barely lingers in the background. On consumption, the berry identifies itself as raspberry and the nuttiness continues with hot pecans and a sweet undertone.
Synopsis:
Similar to most Rocketfuelcoffee.com beans, the Konakaze is very complex and has an excellent smoothness, which reminds you that Kona is involved. The finish is thick and the length is medium. I enjoyed the combination, as often Kona can be a bit low bodied, so the espresso provided a nice boost. This bean was enjoyable throughout the day and I am curious to taste it as an espresso.
