Some type of machine made garbage with a plastic tip.

  2. unfortunately I would have to say my first cigar was a swisher sweet 20 some years ago. I sure have learned a lot since then!

The first cigar I ever smoked is one you all may get a laugh out of , but first I’ll start at the beginning. I was in England for a transfer program and walked by a Cambridge tobacconist. I smelled some delicious cubans and proceeded to call my father. I remembered quite fondly my days of walking into his office as a young boy and seeing him smoke a macanudo baron de rothchild (the Jamaican version of course), so I told him I was tempted for a cigar and he told me immediately, “Ask for a Cohiba siglo and light it with a cedar strip”. I of course obliged but waited until late that night to smoke the cigar.
To shorten the story the cigar was a Cohiba siglo V, which at 2 AM on an empty stomach had me bent over a toilet for some time. I now am an avid cigar smoker, but can never seem to enjoy cohibas!

My first cigar was a private label from Thompson shortly after college graduation 30+ years ago.
It was good smoke and probably a Dominican blend as best as I can remember. I must have liked it as I signed up for the automatic shipment Thompson had ( and still does). I’ve smoked quite a few cigars since then, refining my tastes and moving to the full bodied, but still enjoy reading the Thompson catalogs.

The best cigar ive ever smoked was a cuban hoyo de monterey 7×49 double corona back in 1992 it was simply amazing ive been smokeing cigars on and off since i was eighteenand now iam fifty three iam a big fan of the padron line-FC.

  7. First cigar was a Swisher Sweet. But I don’t really consider that a real cigar. So my first real cigar was in 1991 on my honeymoon in Key West. There was a place (called Key West Cigars, I believe) that rolled their own cigars.

  8. The first hand rolled premium cigar I smoked was a Macanudo Duke of Devon. Back in the mid ’90s a couple of us had been having a cigar at lunchtime on Fridays, it became a weekly event. We would take turns bringing Backwoods or Garcia Vegas or something of that ilk. We decided to see what all the fuss was about and went to a local cigar store. Of course, Macanudo was a name we had heard so we grabbed a couple of them. Not knowing any better, we poked holed in the cap and smoked them the next Friday. The Macanudo didn’t really do anything for me flavor wise, but I became enamored with the process. I started reading and learning about cigars and it wasn’t long before much better cigars were in our Friday noon rotation. 15 years later I still get together with one of the guys now and then and we smoke cigars.

This doesn’t necessarily need to be considered as an entry into the contest, just wanted to join in the fun!

The first cigar I smoked was a Perdomo Reserve 10th Anniversary Champagne. My friend wanted to introduce me to cigar smoking, so for my “wedding gift”(as I was getting married a week later), he took me to a local tobacconist shop and bought me one. Excellent smoke, it is still my all time favorite cigar!! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for an outstanding smoke.

The first cigar I smoked was an Acid Blondie. From there I had I believe 3 Acid Kuba Kuba’s then I started to realize that I was getting a rather horrible chemical taste in the back of my throat and since have never had another flavored cigar.

The first cigar I smoked was a Partagas Serie D No. 4. It was on a cruise ship from Sweden to Åland here in Scandiniavia. It was a lot of people in the smoking area , high music etc. But when I smoked the cigar it was just me and my cigar, everything else faded away and out. IT was beautiful. though my girlfriend didn´t enjoy the smell of my clothes the day after. But I blamed all the cigarette smokers than was there…

  12. scratch

Hmm I believe my first cigar had to be a horrible garcia vegas or something. Though I do distinctly remember my first real cigar being a Romeo y Julieta Vintage III.

My dad makes frequent trips overseas and for my birthday brought me back a Cuban Montecristo no. 2. My british neighbor, my best buddy, my dad, and I all grabbed a cold one and sucked on those cigars for over an hour. That being my first cigar it knocked me on my ass. Good times.

  14. Ahh, good old Swisher Sweets. They were my grandfather’s favorite – more than likely because they were cheap and available, but that’s besides the point. Following in his footsteps started with Swishers, and has led to… well, my *own* cigar blog!

  15. Joey V

First cigar I ever smoked was a (probably fake) Cuban Cohiba in Mexico. Good memories though as I was on a trip with my Dad and Grandfather.

  16. Mike-J

The first cigar i ever smoked was an Oliva series O. It knocked me on my behind. i did not touch another cigar for 6 months. i started slow this time with a Baccarat. now i have been smoking for 3 years.

  17. Dchessman

The frist cigar I smoked was a Swisher Sweet the frist real cigar I smoked was a handmade given to me by my hunting buddie after a hunt in 2008. now I like Cains and Cu-Avana Intenso and 5 Vegas Triple A`s pretty much all maduros. The rest as they say is history!

  18. Don Costanzo

After quiting cigarettes, my work budy ofered me a Kuba Kuba Acid cigar. While this may seem insensitive, it opened a whole new world and only smoking a cigar occasionally, has kept me of cigarettes for over 4 years now. never a craving, and reap the benifits of tobacco without the poison. Thanks Frank!

  19. Jorgen m

Some horrible mm from a gas station with a flavored tip, but I don’t really count it. My first decent one was a Fuente, and that’s what started me down the slippery slope.

  20. Kevin Clingaman

The very first cigar I ever had was 8 years ago, an Arturo Fuente Hemmingway in the bar of this fantastic hotel where I was staying while on a “business trip”. I enjoyed it so much I bought two more, of which I smoked one the next day while playing golf. I haven’t stopped smoking cigars since.

  21. My first cigar was a Fuente 8-5-8. It’s my dad’s go-to stick, so naturally, he made it my first.

  22. My first cigar was a el ray delmundo. Hope I spelled that right . My favorite is far is a Helix. As far as clipping it I like the Spike the best. It fits right on my key chain. Thanks & happy smoking. John

I just decided to turn my life around and went into treatment to stop drinking and smoking pot. A buddy I knew turned me on to pipe tobacco at the local B & M and I got to know one of the workers there. One day he suggested I try a cigar when I was telling him what kind of taste profile I was going for and the cigar I chose was a CAO Brazil. I enjoyed it dearly but did not revisit it until october 2010, 8 years later. I went to the same B & M was going to get some pipe tobacco and recently was doing research on growing my own tobacco, fermentation storing etc. and stumbled across a cigar forums and started reading on humidors after I thought to myself hmm, it would be neat to have my own blend. Make it a serenity blend each year aged like my sobriety. So I then jumped full feet down to start sampling sticks to taste origins, wrappers etc and just fell into full enjoyment. I still have plans to growing My own Cigar leaves and learning to roll etc , and get encouragement from a cigar rep I met, but am now enjoying the information I am learning by talking to those that have been in the business for years and tasting the blends and creations others have put out there for me to enjoy. So Thank you, people that have helped me on my journey and those that may be in my path as I keep on walking in this world.

  24. Alex

Double Heilx at the ripe old age of 14!

  25. i would have to say my first cigar was a Fuente It’s a boy cigar…. its an actually really nice smoke…

  26. can’t remember the brand name of my 1st cigar, but I can say it was not top shelf. When my son was born back in 1982 I gave out “dutch masters” but when my first grandson was born in 2001(1st of 5 grandkids) I gave out “Padron’s” . These days I smoke only quality brands cigars, no more yard-gars for this cigar lover

  27. Down in Costa Rica with my Dad and brother we were visiting friends of the family who have a cattle operation down there. My Dad picked up a box of Monte Cristo #2 knowing we were going to have a massive beef dinner. Meal was absolutely memorable – bottle after bottle of wine and port. Scotch and stogies to finish up. I didn’t finish the cigar that night, but by the end of the week I was hooked. That was 20 years ago know. Friend’s still have the cattle ranch and I get back every few years. Dad is gone now, but my brother and I still reminisce about that night 20 years ago.

  28. Jason

Unfortunately it was a Macanudo. A friend gave it to me at a party, and I somewhat enjoyed it. I think it was followed up fairly quickly by an Oliva G.

  29. Seth

The first cigar I’ve ever smoked was the Partagas Black Label

  30. Nick

The first cigar hmmm let me think it was the Honey Berry Backwoods haha if you can even consider that a cigar.

  31. my first cigar was a cohiba while i was deployed. it started me down this crazy path and i haven’t looked back since.

  32. First cigar I remember smoking was an A. Fuente Cuban Corona. It was also my first box purchase. I bought a box of these for my wedding, and then another box for the birth of my firstborn.

  33. Scott

Fuente something or other was my first. So long ago, I can’t remember the size!

  34. Sean

the first “cigar” I ever smoked was a garcia y vega crystal that my mother bought for me in hopes that I would become turned off to tobacco products…clearly that was a resounding success…

but the first real cigar I smoked was a thousand series padron, so I now have a real taste for anything medium-full bodied…

  35. I was in a tabbaco shop in Dallas Texas around 1980. I was looking for pipe tobbaco and the fella there said I should try a cigar because it was easier than carrying around all the stuff for a pipe. He pointed out a Padron I think it was and I smoked it and have been a lover of cigars ever since. My grandfathers always smoked cigars.and rolled their own cigs. They lived into their old age and died in their 90′s. I have always enjoyed the relaxation I get from a good cigar. That is why I entered the contest. I like remembering them and the first cigar I smoked. Enjoy life and care for others.

The first cigar I ever smoked was actualy several years before I got into smoking cigars. I picked up a couple of sticks at a smoke shop near where I lived as a celebratory gesture for a friend who had just proposed to his girl.
I got a Romeo Y Julieta tubo of some variety and a monte cristo tubo I think for my friend. I can’t remember it was a long time ago and well I don’t spend time with that friend and he never ended up marrying the girl he proposed too but still it was a good night.

The first time I had what I would consider a good cigar, was two years ago when a good friend of mine that I worked with invited me to a barbecue. He told me that he was getting together with some guys for a hurf and they were going to be grilling out, and said I should come check it out. So not wanting to hang out with a bunch of cigar smoker I went to my local cigar store and picked up a drew estate acid cuba cuba. When I arrived at the barbecue and i light up the cigar that i had brought and not 30 seconds later every one start looking at me and giving me funny looks and a that i had not meet yet walked over to me and asked if i was smoking a acid, when i told him yes he kindly asked me to put it out and walked me inside to a very large stand up humidor full of boxes and loose cigars reached in and pulled out a Oliva V and handed it to me, and from then on i was hooked. Now 2 years later I am a active member of my local cigar and pipe club and smoke 10-15 sticks a week. To this day the Oliva V has a special place in my heart.

1st cigar (if you can call it that) was a swisher sweet many years ago. My 1st GOOD cigar was a Carlos Toraño 1959 Exodus, don’t remember the size, but do know it was a box pressed. To this day it remains one of my favorite sticks and you’ll always find them in my humidor. Wanting to try the Exodus 1959 – 50 Years.

I never heard and smoked cigar until i knew a colleague of mine who smokes cigar, while many smoke cigarettes. I could not comprehend the pleasure he is having with his stogies until i tasted one. Now, the reason i chose to smoke cigar instead of cigarettes because naively i thought it would be less riskier in terms of health. so my first stick was Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2. It was the best moment in my life after 29 years in this planet and i definitely will continue to find pleasure in it.

    What happened to the contest?

  42. J.Redleg

There were other cigars before but it was the Macanudo Portofino that made me appreciate what a great cigar can be.

  43. B. Hester

Well…I received my first cigar when I ordered my friend his first humidor. I ordered it from Famous-Smoke for his 19th birthday. He loved and still loves cigars. Famous sent me an MX2, and i thought it was AMAZING as a first cigar, but i spent the remainder of the evening hugging the toilet! That cigar KICKED MY BUTT!! And now, i haven’t had one since but it has recently made it onto the “get the next time youre in the shop” list :-)

  44. First cigar I smoked was an Ashton VSG Eclipse that my buddy gave to me promising me that it would get me hooked on cigars. It definitely worked!!!!

  45. rick

  48. Paul

First cigar I smoked was a backwoods cigar. I was in the Marines riding on an M60 tank… good times.

  49. Emily

The first cigar I smoked was on Valentine’s Day 2008. My husband and I had gotten engaged a few weeks earlier and I wanted to do something special for him for Valentine’s Day. Since he loves cigars, I thought it would be a neat surprise to buy us cigars and smoke with him. We smoked some some Macanudos (Hyde Park size.) Over three years later, and I still love smoking with my husband. It is not only a great date night but a wonderful way to relax, unwind, & connect with each other!
