Limited to 3,000 cigars, this Nicaraguan Puro was the first of the limited edition holiday blends from Viaje.  Andre Farkas does a lot of limited releases with the Nicaraguan Puros he produces. I was fortunate enough to receive this cigar as a birthday present. With a little age on it I let it rest up a bit and then toasted the foot just in time for our first 90+ degree week here in Georgia.

Pre-light, 1.7:
The Criollo wrapper on this stick is in good shape, very dark, and very oily, and the closed foot adds a nice touch.  The cigar is well packed with a good weight in the palm. The pre-light aroma is of earthy tobacco along the wrapper with just a touch of spice at the closed foot. The cold draw produces a blast of spice that finishes with a warmth of earthy tobacco.

Burn, 1.8:
The first puff on the Viaje Holiday Blend 2009 produces plenty of smoke. The aroma is nice and the draw is very good. The cigar burns evenly for the most part and I do not have to touch up or re-light at any point.

Flavor, 2.7:
The first third of the smoke is nice and creamy with a bit of spice on the finish. One inch in the creaminess disappears and the cigar takes on the earthy notes that I was expecting. Into the second third the cigar transitions from the earthiness back to a cream and nutty type profile with spice present on the finish. The last third seems to be spicier with earth being the dominant undertone.  That being said the creamy nutty flavors are present as well, just not as pronounced.

Overall, 2.7:
For a limited edition smoke this one is a nice purchase. The flavors were pleasant and the construction was very nice. I would think the resting time of this smoke changed the profile a bit. I would have liked to compare it but with a 3,000 limited run, I was lucky just to get to try this one out.
