My question is for the Oliva cigars. I am a big fan of the NUB line of cigars, and I know that they recently released a sungrown version of the NUB, but my question is do they have any plans in the future to produce a corojo NUB? If they did, without a doubt it would have a permanent home in my humidors!
I didnt get a chance to speak with anyone at Oliva, but I’ll say this, there new Melanio looks fantastic and I can’t wait to review one!
For CAO: I miss the excitement of the release of Brazilla and Italia. Do you plan on releasing additional full-bodied sticks in the future?
Tommie. I didnt speak to anyone at CAO, but they were making a lot of noise with their new “Concert” series……..no pun intended
Tatuaje – other than the Monster series and the TAA 2012, do we have any new cigars releasing coming from Pete?
L’Atelier Surrogates is Petes next line
Actually Pete is also releasing the Avion 2012 which is a Vitola extension as well as the L’Atelier. I had the pleasure of smoking one of the 2012 Avions with Pete and I thought it was much better than the 2011.
Pete was incredibly gracious with with his time and I’ll be writing more about our conversation over the next few days as I get caught up.
My buddy coop has a great update on Pete’s products for this year here:
http://www.cigar-coop.com/2012/08/cigar-preview-latelier-surrogates.html
A.Fuente – In light of the tragedy that occurred with the crop fire. Are there any plans to release a commemorative cigar as a way of saying “We’re still here and strong as ever”. Not to make light of a bad situation, I just think its amazing when companies come back from hardship guns blazing.
Thanks,
Brad
This will be part of their “next 100 years” campaign….They are heavily focused on bringing in a new 100 years of tradition as opposed to looking back at the tragedy
My Father Cigars (Don Pepin or Jaime) if you had to choose just one type of wrapper leaf to work with what would it be? The Garcia family seems to do great things with habano rosado, and more recently sumatra. Not just for their own cigars, but for the others they produce cigars for as well.
GCat,
Thanks for your question. It lead to a highlight of the show for me.
Here’s your answer, straight from Jaime Garcia (with a translation assist by Jose Ortega) “Viso Habano”
Awesome sounds like you had good conversation with Jaime. Thanks for asking my question!
For Illusione: Are there any plans to bring back the MK Ultra?
Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get to Dion
Altadis – Why are Henry Clays do hard to find? I line in Philadelphia PA and not one B&M within 30 miles carries them. Also, why does no one respond to requests via your website? Poor customer service.
Cremo Cigars: I enjoyed the cigars being released. Great flavors and construction. I see that a maduro is coming on the horizon. Is the maduro blended differently from the Classic other than the wrapper? What other surprises do you guys have planned?
Jeff,
Thanks for the question. Cremo Cigars was one of the first booths I stopped at. I think Walter, the President of Cremo, was a little taken back by me at first but when I showed him your question he opened up and we had a great conversation.
As to your question, the Maduro will be a stronger blend. There is also anotehr nmew line in the works. Remember, Cremo cigars are rolled at El Titan de Bronze…formerly home to Willy Herrera and the source the La Palina Goldie.
I’m really looking forward to smoking and reviewing some of the Cremo offerings.
Question for Oliva / Studio Tabac (similar to the above): when is Nub Sun Grown & Nub USA going to be more broadly released?
Oh, and any chance of you attempting a Nub Puro of some sort?
JD,
I didn’t speak to anyone at Oliva, but I don’t recall seeing anything new regarding the Nub. Don’t quote me though because I really don’t know.
My question is for Charlie Toraño. What will be your next Single Region release?
I spoke with Jack Torano and Miguel Schoedel (a territory rep. for Torano) for a while. The impression I have is that the Single Region is not in their plans for the near future.
However, for Torano fans, they are releasing the Salutem which has an Ecuador Habano Wrapper and Jalapa binder and the Master Habano Maduro. I smoked each of these on the drive home and I think Torano fans will be quite pleased.
Tatuaje do you have any thoughts on adding to the RC lineup?
It’s being thought about. More on that when I post my Recap of 30 minutes with Pete.
For Jonathan Drew
With the success of the Feral Flying Pigs, will we see increased production in the No. 9 and T52 line in that shape and size?
I Didn’t get to speak with JD as he was in ridiculously high demand, however John Brooke, DE’s media director was great with his time and we discussed a number of questions.
As far as more Pigs, don’t count on it, they are incredibly time consuming to roll, few rollers can do it, and there are wrapper leaf concerns that are slowing production of a number of Liga/Unico blends.
Tatuaje – What are your thoughts on the increasing popularity of rare or extremely limited (collectible??) cigars? Do you think these products are good for the overall industry?
TJ,
Great question and one that opened up a tremendous conversation with Pete. I’ll have more on this in a few days as I get caught up!
Jonathan Drew/Drew Estates – I have heard that the Baitfish is going to be released nationaly. When is the target date for this or has it already happened? As yet I haven’t seen them in any of the B&M’s in my area, Eastern Massachusetts/Southern NE or on any of my favorite retailer’s websites. Fantastic little flavor bomb! I’d love to be able to walk into my local shop and pick up a fistful.
Baitfish is already national. I know site sponsor SmokeInnCigars.com
has had them fairly recently. If you cant find them keep looking, they are out there.
I’m a big fan of Drew Estate! I got started into cigars with the Kuba Kuba, which I still enjoy now and again, as well as the DeepDish, Acid One, Acid 5, and Atom Maduro. I also enjoy the Chateau Real, Java (their partnership with Rocky Patel), La Vieja Habana, Natural Root & Dirt, even the occasional SubCulture (now that DE’s site lists them and how to get them!!). I’ve introduced others into cigars with DE’s Acid line, just as I was.
So my question is, with all the attention to the Liga brand, it seems some of DE’s earlier brands are in need of some lovin’ too. Any plans to add new cigars or brands to the Acid line? Thanks!
Mark,
The TAA Big Bang is the newest release of the Acid line.
Check it out!
PaulStulac: “I am not a huge fan of skull art, but your logo and text are simply stunning. The bands on your cigars are so eye-catching, that even though I have yet to find any locally, I feel like they must be awesome. Same with the design on your website. So my question: Where did the inspiration for the Paul Stulac brand logo and design come from? And are there any specific or deep meanings to them?”
007 Thanks for the question. I actually got to hang out and talk with Paul a good bit due to your question.
Two things 1) Paul is a general fan of that type of artwork
and more importantly 2) he wanted the artwork to incorporate elements of the name of each of the Vitolas in his original line.
Take a look at the Vitola names here and you’ll see the references in the art work.:
http://www.paulstulaccigars.com/cigars.html
Awesome! Glad my question was useful. I really like the look of his cigars! Now, hopefully I can win a sampler pack for the question too!
Drew Estate: There have been rumors of making the FFP a limited production and promoting something else – perhaps the Ratzilla or UF-4 – to regular production. Any truth to those rumors? Any more expansion into the Undercrown line – perhaps in a Lancero?
Not likely at the moment. There are tobacco supply issues from what was explained to me.
Palio Cutters: when will you guys becoming out with a v cutter?
They have no plans to create a V-Cutter
My question is for Illusione. I have become quite obsessed with the 88 & 888 Claro! Are there plans to add candela to any other lines?
Camacho- Any plans to create a Son’s of Anarchy cigar?
To Nick Perdomo: Congratulations on celebrating your 20th anniversary in the industry and for releasing a cigar to commemorate it with. What can you tell us about the Perdomo 20th Anniversary?
And while we anticipate tasting this cigar, what else do you have in store for the Perdomo fans in the near future?
Thanks,
J. Redleg
In addition to the 20th, which looks really good, and will be at a reasonable price point, Perdomo is also going to expand their offerings in the “Noir” lines by adding new sizes (ring gauges)
For Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate, et al. We know that you and Marvin Samel created the Cigar Rights of America and You have recently dedicated a lot of your efforts to Cigars For Warriors, whom you have generously given space here at IPCPR to promote their charity, what words of wisdom do you have for the other cigar manufacturers in regards to supporting charities like Cigars For Warriors? How important is it to support the CRA and Charities like Cigars For Warriors?
MJ,
To a man, everyone at DE is incredibly outspoken regarding CRA, Cigars for Warriors, and more. Those guys put their money where their mouth is when it comes to the causes they support.
Arsen Cigars: Please explain why the new label is called “Pink for Men”.
Sorry Agent 86, I blew this one a few times. I passed Arsen a few times with the intent to ask them and each time I got distracted by one of their neighbors. By the time I made a final pass on Monday I had missed them.
Pete Johnson – Which vice garnered your interest first, premium cigars or fine wines? And when for both?
Cigars! (more later!)
Kurt Keppel of Xikar – Do you plan to bring back to the states the production of all your products, or will you continue to outsource?
Ashton: Because tobacco is organic and weather varies from year to year, is it possible to exactly duplicate flavors and strengths from year to year for any given blend? Or do you try to come as close as you can each year?
I didn’t speak to Ashton about this, but I’ve had this conversation with other companies. A very simplistic answers is as follows: basically there is a blend recipe, if necessary due to uncontrollable variables, they may make minor blend tweaks as needed, but typically they try to stay with the master recipe when possible.
My question is to Pete Johnson/Tatuaje. I don’t enjoy your regular line cigars very much, but nearly ever limited release you’ve released was amazing. Will you bring back the same blend you made the Tenderloins out of? Or even the T110? Maybe you can make a regular line that can compete with either one of those?
The T110 was resurrected as the Fausto Series.
ALL MANUFACTURERS, the cigars you buy at your local b&m and the cigars you buy on-line, are the the same? thanks!
This is for ROMA cigars. Are you planning on a national distribution or are you only doing a few regionals? Specifically, St. Louis…
Occs,
They are coming….shoot me an e-mail at willystyl@toastedfoot.com
as I have a question for you.
For those following Roma, expect to see their distribution go from around 35 locations to over 70 very soon!
Viaje: Any chance we will see the Candy Cane for Christmas this year?
Willy, hope you don’t mind me answering this one. I spoke to Andre and yes, he plans on releasing the Candy Cane with the Holiday Blend 2012. Andre was very quiet when it came to details on the Candy Cane other than “it’s coming”
Coop, when I talked to Andre it seemed as if he was going to keep most of his special releases as annual runs. Did you get the same vibe?
Padilla: I read where you ceased production is this true and are you reforming your line?
This is pretty well covered now. Padilla is shutting down most of his portfolio and going back to small batch boutique blends. Im sure if you poke around the web you’ll find a lot more on this.
Question for the Padron family. I understand the Family Reserve line is to continue up to the 50th. Any plans to follow up with another line or continue past the 50th?
Rick,
Great question and I was just as curious as I am a HUGE Padron fan. I spent a while talking with Jeff Padron, and here’s the scoop!
This year they are releasing the no.4 a 6 1/2″x60rg anniversario.
Very similar to the 6 x 60 SI-15 they did as a retailer exclusive last year.
According to Jeff, there are no plans to continue the Family Reserve series until the 50th. The idea is to make sure that the 50th is really something extra special. I have no doubt it will be!
Oliva Cigar Family, are any box-pressed editions in the works?
The Melanio
My question is for the CAO reps…I love the Soprano line of your cigars and would like to know if you plan to make anything that resembles the Soprano ? My shop doesn’t carry the Soprano’s anymore and the MX2′s mix seems to have changed. I hope you can help. Thank you
For Tatuaje …. Any more little Boris????
Please………
I wish I would have asked him that!, he gave me a lot of time and I totally whiffed on the Lil Boris! Personally I really hope he does it.
For My Father Cigars,
Any chance the Special S becomes a regular line? It’s Bsolutely delicious.
According to Jaime Garcia (translated by Jose Ortega) “It’s not on the horizon”
Dear Drew…. (Drew Estates)
So when are we greeting our hands on some Undercrown Flying pigs, and any shots a a release of the T52 or No. 9 pigs?
My question is for Andre Farkas of Viaje. I would like to know if he has any future plans to re-introduce or produce a regular line for the Viaje brand. All of us die hard Viaje fans want something that we can get year round without having to fight to find them. Thank you.
Bad news. Viaje is going to continue to remain a small batch exclusively brand. There will be an occasional re-release, nut don’t expect a regular production line anytime soon.
For Nick Perdomo: What do you do that no one else does that makes your cigars never have a a bad draw or poor burn? I smoke a fair amount of Perdomo product and have never been let down.
Jonathan Drew, Drew Estate will we see more production of the Dirty Rat? One of the best and most difficult smokes for me to find.
Dont expect them anytime soon.
For Drew Estate: Although you’ve produced high quality traditional cigars such as the Liga Privada line, you have also been successful in producing a wide range of infused cigars as well. What influenced you to target the ‘flavored’ cigars market?
For Jonathon Drew at Drew Estate, We know that the Formula for the ACID (Arielle Chester Industrial Design) line is more closely guarded than the Colonels Secret herbs & Spices….. Are there any NEW cigars in the ACID line on the horizon? It seems that a lot of Energy is going into your Exceptional other lines such as LP, Undercrown, etc.
Just the TAA Big Bang which is in TAA retailers now. Drew Estate will also be selling single packed Acid cigars in Circle K’s that are packed as singles with a humidification device.
Question for Arturo Fuentes
Over the last couple of years we have seen a growing number of box pressed cigars. Some of which have rated very highly and have developed a following, so… other than the sharks, which are all amazing. Are there any plans for a box pressed Fuentes, or Opus?
According to Karl Herzog, VP of Operations for Fuente, they are toying with Shark sizes in some of the other blends . Also expect to see an increase in Maduro wrappers from Fuente, not necessarily new, but less limited.
For the Padron family – all your lines are amazing, but any possibility of a new line? Maybe a new limited edition?
Also, of all the cigars manufacturers around, every single Padron vitola looks identical in wrapper color and construction.! I was comparing a 3 year old 1964 Proncipe to a new one and they look identical. How is this done? Even the draw is always perfect.
As mentioned earlier: This year they are releasing the no.4 a 6 1/2″x60rg anniversario.
Very similar to the 6 x 60 SI-15 they did as a retailer exclusive last year.
According to Jeff, there are no plans to continue the Family Reserve series until the 50th.
The quality is a function of the fact that the company is vertically controlled. The Padron Family controls everything from planting, harvesting, fermenting, aging, rolling, all the way up through distribution. They also maintain several years of tobacco in storage in case of an emergency. I
any chance cao will produce all three cigars in their last cigar standing contest?
Berger & Argenti : Your Entubar stogies are amazing but they only come in medium and large ring gauges.
Your Mooch line goes down to 42; will there be an Entubar or Quad Maduro released in a narrow ring size?
For AJ Fernandez: Following the success of the Oval (favorite smoke!) and San Lotano as a whole, are there any passdown revivals from your grandfather’s wisdom that will be added to the portfolio of AJ Fernandez to come?
Actually had a great conversation with Clay Roberts, VP at AJ Fernandez Cigars. Don’t look for any pass downs this year. However, they are releasing the Pinolero, which is a Nicaraguan term for local. The idea behind this cigar is to achieve the type of unique smoking experience you would get if a local handed you a hand rolled or if AJ just threw something together for you while walking though a curing barn.
I smoked one with Clay on Sunday and I think the Pinolero will be a hit. It’s very smooth with a nice, consistent, flavor and some woodsy notes (oak).
Clay,
If you read this, I appreciated your time and candor. Thank you.
My Father Cigars- any of the Trio: Although the foot band ribbons look great, they add nothing to the wonderful sticks you produce. On the contrary, they often lead to wrapper damage upon removal. Any chance they shall be discontinued in the future? Thanks for producing such wonderful cigars. paul
Tatuaje – Pete, do you come up with any blends yourself or do you have a master blender present you with different blends to choose from? Thanks!
Pete blends to his taste. More on this in my conversation write up.
This is for Rick Rodrigues of CAO. How did you come up with the new cao Concert cigar blend and what was your inspiration for it ??
Willy, hope you don’t mind me answering one more. This one was to pay tribute to CAO’s musical roots in Nashville. With Nashville so connected to the music industry, they wanted to market a cigar with such a theme.
Thanks Coop! I appreciate you helping to fill in a few blanks! The show was almost a bit overwhelming for this newbie. It felt like I was just getting my bearings as the show ended!
This is for General Cigar. What the hell is a steampunk ???? Nad will we be seeing the new ” foundery” any time soon ???
I didnt get to speak with anyone at General on this but my buddy Coop has a nice write up you can find out more here:
http://www.cigar-coop.com/2012/08/cigar-preview-general-cigar-to-launch.html
Hey Everyone,
Thanks for your submissions. I got a lot of great information from a number of cigar makers thanks to all of you. I will start posting some of your answers and announce the winners later this week as we start posting the IPCPR Content.
Thanks for all your help and support!
