Warped’s Flor del Valle “Sky Flower” was the Toasted Foot Cigar of the Year in 2015, which made excellent use of medio tiempo tobacco. This year’s new follow up is the Maestro del Tiempo 6102R that features medio tiempo filler from Estelí. There’s two versions of the Maestro del Tiempo, and while both are quite good, the one featuring the extra medio tiempo filler is something special.

Pre-Light: Like the other cigars in the Warped portfolio, the Maestro del Tiempo 6102R has an elegant look to it. The leathery brown Corojo 99 wrapper from Jalapa has a nice bit of oil to it, and the occasional medium sized vein. The pink and gold band looks in line with the type of classic styling that we’ve come to expect from Kyle Gellis’ Warped Cigars. A secondary band differentiates the 6102R from the 5205 and 5712.

Wood and leather aromas are discernible from the Jalapa Corojo 99 wrapper. From the unlit foot of the cigar there are scents of wood, cinnamon and a little bit of spice. An easy cold draw allows plenty of cinnamon, spice and slight hay notes to come through.

Burn: The Warped Maestro del Tiempo 6102R has a perfect draw, that allows through plenty of flavorful smoke. Even burning from start to finish, the Maestro del Tiempo 6102R is a nicely constructed cigar. A good looking white ash clings nicely to the foot of the cigar, and doesn’t drop off unexpectedly.

Flavor: The Maestro del Tiempo 6102R begins with a unique blend of spices and mild chili peppers. There is a bit of leather and oak that begins to come forward as the cigar gets going. Oak, nutmeg, leather and spice round out the flavors during the first of the cigar. The flavor keep morphing and changing rather quickly throughout the Warped Maestro del Tiempo 6102R. On the retrohale there is a pleasant blend of nutmeg, spice and woodsiness. As the cigar burns into the second third what was a leather note has been replaced with a Cuban coffee flavor, and is joined by nutmeg, spice, cedar and just a hint of red pepper. During the transition to the final third of the Maestro del Tiempo 6102R there is a mix of coffee and wood notes in the foreground of the flavor profile with leather, nutmeg and mild red pepper in the background. Halfway through the final third of the cigar there is a black pepper that joins coffee and cedar to last through to the end of the cigar.

Overall: Jupiter, Florida based Warped Cigars has had some very impressive releases, with two cigars making our Top Ten Cigars of 2015 list, including the Cigar of the Year Flor del Valle “Sky Flower”, and one cigar in our 2015 Honorable Mentions list. That’s a lot to live up to, but Warped manages to keep up the string of high quality new releases. The Maestro del Tiempo 6102R is one of those cigars that will make fans of Warped’s previous releases very happy. While it’s not the earth shatteringly amazing cigar that the Sky Flower was, it is still a very impressive cigar with a lot of flavor and complexity. Medium bodied cigar smokers will love the Maestro del Tiempo 6102R, while fuller bodied cigar enthusiasts should be able to appreciate the flavor. I personally really enjoyed the Maestro del Tiempo, and have some sitting down in my humidor. Since only 150 cabinets of 100 cigars were made of the 6102R, it is going to be a hard cigar to find, but it’s definitely worth seeking out. At my local shop the fist cabinet sold out in a day or two. I certainly recommend picking up as many of this cigar as you can when you see them.

Pairing: When I review a cigar, I always drink a bottle of sparkling water to allow for the cigar’s flavors to really stand out. I’d suggest doing the same the first time you try the Warped Maestro del Tiempo 6102R. The 6102R pairs very well with a wide variety of beverages. Personally, I like the Balvenie 21 PortWood with the Warped Maestro del Tiempo 6102R.
