Cigar Review: Viaje Exclusivo Nicaragua



The Viaje Exclusivo began life as a personal blend for brand owner Andre Farkas, but since 2009 has become a staple in the Viaje line, with all kind of various sizes being released over the years. Now the Viaje Exclusivo gets a new Nicaraguan puro, manufactured at Casa Fernandez’s TABSA factory in Nicaragua, which sets it apart from the original line which is made in Honduras. This new medium-full to full bodied addition to the Viaje Exclusivo line surpasses its original version, and sure to become a favorite of Viaje fans.

Julio R. Eiroa (father of Christian) released several new cigars at this year’s IPCPR, but the one that really stands out is the Aladino. Julio is also a legend in the tobacco industry, having grown tobacco in Honduras since 1963 and being famous for his original Corojo tobacco that formed the basis for Camacho’s success. With JRE Tobacco, it is being called a “crop to shop” operation, with every step in the process from farming, production and distribution being controlled by JRE Tobacco.

For the first time since adding La Aurora Preferidos Diamond No. 2 back in 2012, La Aurora has expanded the Preferidos line with a new blend. While the other cigars in the line are differentiated by the type of wrapper used (ie. Brazillian, Broadleaf, Cameroon), this time La Aurora is focusing on the aging process. After being rolled the cigars are aged for an additional 90 days, imparting an interesting sweetness to the cigar. The new La Aurora Preferidos Double Barrel Aged No. 2 is a good addition to the flagship Preferidos line.

After the stellar release of the HR Habano in late 2014, everyone was waiting to see what Cuban tobacco grower Hirochi Robaina would do next. First he made our Most Fascinating People in the Cigar Industry 2015 List, then he teamed up with Spence Drake to expand the brand at the 2016 IPCPR Trade Shows in New Orleans with two new additions. The HR Blue is the new maduro added to the line, and uses tobacco from the original HR Habano blend covered in a Ecuadorian Habano Maduro wrapper.

The well-recieved Stogies H-Town Lancero Series continues to expand, this time with a rare cigar in a rare vitola. For this year’s TAA, Drew Estates released the Herrera Esteli TAA Maduro, and the latest Stogies store exclusive lancero is that blend in the vitola that only seems to fly off the shelves at Stogies World Class Cigars in Houston, Texas. Like the other cigars in the H-Town Series the Herrera Esteli Maduro H-Town is a great cigar, and is definitely going to be sought after by hard core cigar enthusiasts.
