Headley Grange Laguito No. 6 Cigar by Crowned Heads
Cigar Review: Headley Grange Laguito No 6 by Crowned Heads

Normally, Willy and I do not review the same cigar in different sizes because it would just become a bit redundant. (Willy generally picks sizes that appeal to him personally. I try to try a bunch of sizes and pick the one that best fits that cigar blend.) However, when a friend that works at my local cigar shop gave me the new Headley Grange Laguito it was too good not to share with our readers.

Viaje Collaboration 2014
Cigar Review: Viaje Collaboration 2014

Viaje is a boutique brand that tends to be less well known well among the average cigar enthusiast, but is passionately followed by cigar geeks and bloggers. The model small batch limited releases that make use of high quality rare tobaccos is one that is especially appealing to the collectors of fine cigars. The brand has slowly grown on me over time and they’ve made some great cigars (see my earlier Viaje Oro review). Now, the idea of collaborating with a different company “every year or so” to produce something special...

Alec Bradley Nica Puro H-Town Lancero for Stogies of Houston
Cigar Review: Alec Bradley Nica Puro H-Town Lancero

Jorge Ahued, proprietor of Stogies World Class Cigars in Houston, has long been known as a fan of lancero cigars. Few shops have such an extensive lancero collection, so it only makes sense that Stogies has developed a line of exclusive H-Town lancero cigars with various manufacturers. The other day Jorge told me that, “when it’s all said and done there will be ten different H-Town lanceros”. The latest addition to the H-Town series is an Alec Bradley Nica Puro that was made by the Plasencia family.

Davidoff Nicaragua Cigar
Cigar Review: Davidoff Nicaragua Toro

For years Davidoff has been known as a Dominican cigar company; especially after they stopped making cigars in Cuba. Master Blender Henkie Kelner is known for using fairly mild to medium filler and Ecuadorian Connecticut-seed wrappers, so this Nicaraguan Puro is a major departure from the norm. (The term “Puro” being applied to this cigar is being debated by some cigar writers because, though the tobacco is all Nicaraguan, it was manufactured at Davidoff in the Dominican Republic.)

Terroir Cigar by Chinnock Cellars Cigars
Cigar Review: Terroir by Chinnock Cellars Cigars

There are many similarities between the cigar and wine industries. Both are dominated by several major companies, but there is a culture of boutique brands within those industries. Terroir (the land the plant is grown in) plays a huge part in the eventual final product in both. The list goes on and on. So, it strikes me as odd that, before now, a winemaker never started a boutique cigar company. When winemaker Brian Chinnock started up Chinnock Cellars Cigars, he managed to create the perfect cigar to pair with a glass of red wine.

A.J. Fernandez New World
Cigar Review: A.J. Fernandez New World

The A.J. Fernandez New World is the newest cigar from A.J. Fernandez Cigars. A full bodied cigar with a good amount of cocoa, coffee and nut flavors, the New World is certain to be well received by cigar enthusiasts. What makes the project different than previous releases is that this is the first collaboration between A.J. and his father Ismael.

Monte Cristo Espada Nicaraguan Cigar
Cigar Review: Monte Cristo Espada Guard

As I’ve said before, I’m quite impressed with what Altadis has been doing with its long standing brands. (See my earlier H. Upmann The Banker review.) From the Monte Cristo Epic to the Monte by Monte Cristo, Altadis has been changing the way serious cigar enthusiasts view their cigars. So, when it was announced that an all Nicaraguan Monte Cristo made in a collaboration between Grupo de Maestros and the Plasencia family, I was understandably excited to see the finished product.

La Jugada Nunchuck Cigar for Cigar Dojo
Cigar Review:La Jugada Nunchuck

The La Jugada Nunchuck is the third cigar blend to be released by Moya Ruiz Cigars. It is a limited edition cigar created for the Cigar Dojo online cigar site and social network. In keeping with the dojo theme, the cigars are packaged to resemble a pair of nunchucks. Only 1,000 boxes of 10 cigars are being released to La Jugada retailers across the country, and they should sell out pretty quickly. So far, Moya Ruiz Cigars has released really good high quality cigars made at Erik Espinosa’s La Zona factory.

601 La Bomba Bunker Buster Cigar from Smoke Inn Mircoblend
Cigar Review: 601 La Bomba Bunker Buster (Smoke Inn Mircoblend)

On June 6th, the anniversary of D-Day, Smoke Inn will release the latest cigar in its Microblend Series, the 601 La Bomba Bunker Buster from Espinosa cigars. A large launch party will be held at the Smoke Inn Casa de Monte Cristo in Boyton Beach, where to honor those who served our country, any active or former military will receive a free cigar and cocktail with a military ID. It’s nice to see the military aspect of the 601 Bunker Buster carried over to even its launch party.
